Make Halloween Spooky and Special with Fun Wall Decals
Although Halloween isn’t a specifically American holiday (some experts and historians say that it dates back to 16th century Scotland), we’ve certainly made the holiday uniquely American over the last two-hundred years or so. Halloween in America has always been a time for tricks and treats and dressing up in fun or spooky costumes, but the holiday really took off in the 1950s when the candy companies got into the holiday spirit and began turning out volumes of bite-sized treats for all the little ghosts and goblins in the neighborhood.
The Halloween holiday has grown in popularity so much since the 1950s that current spending on Halloween décor and other holiday-related goodies in America is nearly $7 billion annually. There’s no doubt that we love Halloween and all things related to the spooky holiday. By the time September rolls around, there isn’t a home decorating magazine on the newsstands that isn’t featuring a cover story on great Halloween decorating tips. And the Halloween stores that sell costumes and decorations are simply popping up all over town. Fortunately, you don’t have to spend that much on quality Halloween holiday décor – especially when you’re using home-made crafts and holiday wall decals to decorate your rooms with spooky flair!
Decorating your house for Halloween can be done frightfully well on a budget. Thinking about a Halloween tree for the living room? A branch from one of the trees in the yard can be stripped of its leaves, spray-painted black, and used to hang bats and ghosts and pumpkins cut from colored construction paper. If you have a few old vases around the house that you don’t mind getting crafty with, you can also spray-paint them in witchy black or pumpkin orange (or wrap them in cheese cloth for that mummified appearance) and fill them with white roses or lilies. Add a few creepy, gnarled twigs here and there for fullest effect.
In the kitchen, you can fill clear glass jars and bottles with water and a little food coloring to make creepy potions bottles. You can find spooky labels to fill out and print online. Just do a Google search for “Halloween Labels” and you’ll find an assortment for your bottles.
In the front entryway, where all the little ghoulies and ghosties will be arriving on Halloween night, you can hang more construction paper bats from the ceiling. Shreds of cheese cloth can also be hung from the ceiling to look like drooping spider webs (add a few black plastic spiders for effect). But, if you like to decorate for Halloween, and you don’t much care for stringing spider webs from room to room, you might want to consider selecting a few Halloween-themed holiday wall decals from Wall Decal World.
